RECAP: Lost - "The End"

If you had asked me what my reaction to the Lost finale was going to be before I watched it, I would have predicted either mild appreciation or blind fury. After the shitfest that was season 6 of this show, I honestly wasn't expecting a whole lot in terms of satisfaction from the finale. The writers have made a habit of spitting directly in the faces of fans of the show, and there was no indication that they would do any different with "The End." And as predicted, initially I was pissed with the way the show ended. Significant questions were left unanswered, and the explanation of the Side-Universe at first seemed fantastically retarded. However, it's been a day or so, and now I'm left with a somewhat-startling feeling of indifference about the show. How, you ask, did one of the most important shows of our generation end up causing me not to care at all about it? Read on, my friends, and you will see a tale of stupidity the likes of which has rarely been seen.

Internet Goodness: GUUUUUHHHHH!!!

I hesitated to post this under the heading "Internet Goodness," because quite frankly there's absolutely nothing good about what's happening in this picture. However, I did find it on the Internet, so I guess the heading works.

Seriously. That is the gnarliest thing I've ever seen. I've always been of the opinion that bullfighting is a really goddamn stupid thing to do, and I'm pretty sure no one on earth could ever disagree with me after seeing this (closeups here). In fact, after these photos have been published, I wouldn't be surprised to see every bullfighter on earth say "Fuck this I quit."

Internet Goodness: Peter Fox

This is one of the coolest music videos I've seen in a long time, and I actually really like the song. Props to Sister for letting me know about it.

Internet Goodness: Lost Re-enacted by Cats

This is probably the most accurate re-enactment of Lost that I've ever seen. And it doesn't even need people.

RECAP: Lost - "What They Died For"

After 6 years it's finally coming to an end. That's right, this Sunday, Lost airs its series finale, which will hopefully bring the show to a satisfying conclusion but which will much more likely just piss off anyone who watches. After an amazingly weak season, the only reason I'm still watching the show is because I've watched it for six years and what the hell else am I going to do with only a couple of episodes left. I had hoped the show would finish strong, but until this week's episode it didn't look like there was much hope of that. However (dare I say it?), this week's episode was actually pretty good. I really only had one complaint about it, which I'll get to at the end of the recap, but overall it was well-paced and it answered several of the major questions that the show has been based on. Read on for the full recap.

REVIEW: Survivor Finale

Although I haven't been recapping this season of Survivor, I've been following it since the beginning, and after last night's finale I decided to write a review of the season as a whole. A bit of background information on the season before I discuss the finale: This season was titled "Heroes vs. Villains," and featured a cast of 20 former contestants, divided into two tribes of 10, named the Heroes and the Villains, respectively. The cast featured such famous Survivors as Boston Rob Mariano, Parvati Shallow, James Clement, and Rupert Boneham. The wild card this season, however, was Russell Hantz. Although Russell was the main Villain of season 19, none of the other contestants were aware of this fact, as season 19 hadn't aired before season 20 began production. In fact, this gave Russell a pretty significant advantage, as none of the other contestants knew anything about him or his gameplay (although there were rumours that Parvati had received some insider information about him prior to the season). Read on for a more thorough review.

RECAP: Lost - "Across the Sea"

It's incredible to me how far downhill this show has gone. Yes, the third season was god-awful, but I felt like the show redeemed itself with the fourth and fifth seasons. This sixth season, however, with very few exceptions, has been absolutely horrendous. The plot is crawling along at a snail's pace, with sporadic episodes in which so much happens it's impossible to get the full impact (last week's episode was a perfect example). It's gotten so bad, in fact, that even when the show finally answers some of the huge questions that it has set up (as this week's episode did), they are robbed of their significance by the knowledge of how awful the show has become. This week we finally learned the background of Jacob and the Man in Black, but aside from revealing this information the episode was not very good at all, and so it took away from the satisfaction of finally getting some goddamn answers from this show. After the jump I've got the full recap.

RECAP: The Amazing Race - "Huger Than Huge"

Well, it's finally over. After 12 legs, The Amazing Race 16 overcame the relatively low standards that it has been setting all season long and actually presented us with a really entertaining season finale. We saw screw-ups, meltdowns, and more asinine behaviour (mostly from one team in particular), as well as some great teamwork and a final dramatic showdown that had been building for a long time. After the jump I'll reveal the winners and give the full recap.

Internet Goodness: Lost - CSI Miami Edition

I don't know if anything I could say would do this picture justice. You'll have to click it to see it full-size. Enjoy:

RECAP: Lost - "The Candidate"

With only three episodes left, Lost is currently scrambling to wrap up as many of its loose ends as it possibly can in the time it has. The finale has been extended by half an hour in order to give them more time to do this, but the fact that they've written themselves into a situation that can't possibly be adequately resolved in three episodes (despite the fact that they've known for like 3 goddamn years exactly how much time they had left) means that a lot of the resolutions that we're going to see are going to be pretty sloppy. And that's exactly how I'd describe this week's episode: sloppy. Yes, it moved the plot along, but it resolved a number of storylines in completely unsatisfactory ways. After the jump I've got the full recap.

Listen, I've seen a lot of wild things in my life, but this wins at everything:

Internet Goodness: The Best Movie Ever?

I swear to God, they could make a movie of Danny Trejo making a ham sandwich and it would probably still be the best film of the year. This is the (unofficial?) trailer for Machete, the new film from Robert Rodriguez based on the trailer shown in Grindhouse.

Seriously. They just fucked with the wrong Mexican.

RECAP: The Amazing Race: "They Don't Even Understand Their Own Language"

Well, this recap is 3 days late, but between moving and starting a new job, I haven't had much time for blogging. Hopefully now that things have settled down a bit I can get back to posting on a regular basis (I've got quite a bit of Internet Goodness for you all, which will start to appear over the next few days). I was wrong about this week being the finale of The Amazing Race (which is a pretty big screwup for someone who professes to blog about TV, so I apologize). Next week is the last episode; I'm not sure if they're going to do a 2-hour finale this year or not (I know, I'm a veritable wellspring of useful information). This week's episode had its moments, from hilarious interactions with locals to meltdowns from two different teams, but for some reason it still doesn't feel like the Race is almost over. I don't know if it's just because the season has been somewhat lame, but I'm just not as into the show as I've been in previous seasons. Hopefully the finale next week will do something to redeem this. Read on for the full recap.
